■ Heat Transfer Diagram of Typical Heat Exchanger
■ Functional Types of Heat Exchangers
1. Exchanger
Heats one stream while cooling another
2. Cooler
Cools liquids or gases without condensation
3. Condenser
Cools a vapor to its dew point in order to extract condensate from it
4. Chiler
Uses refrigerants to cool a stream below the standard temperature of available cooling water stream.
5. Heater
Heats process stream with no appreciable vaporization (Often use steam as heating medium)
6. Reboiler
Reboils the bottom stream of a fractionating tower prior to its return to the tower
7. Steam Generator
Uses process liquids or gases to produce steam (Usually from boiler feed water)
8. Vaporizer
Vaporizes part of a process stream (Also called an Evaporator)
■ Typical Shell and Tube Exchanger
Cools liquids or gases without condensation
